Build a Three-Whys Customer Insight Ladder
I get a structured insight ladder: my customer's starting want repeated word for word, an ordered chain of at least three whys numbered from 1 with no gaps, and a final layer that separately names the functional and the emotional need (plus a social need if I require one), so I can see what sits beneath the surface ask.
You receive: A JSON object {startingWant, ladder:[{level, why, answer}], functionalNeed, emotionalNeed, socialNeed} with the levels numbered 1, 2, 3, ... in order.

What's verified: STUD verifies the deliverable repeats your starting want word for word (capitalization and extra spaces are ignored; a paraphrase is rejected), the ladder has at least your minimum number of why levels (the minimum is kept between 3 and 10) and at most 30 levels, the levels are numbered 1, 2, 3, ... starting at 1 with no gaps, every level is phrased as a why-question (starts with 'why', ends with '?') and carries a non-empty answer (at least 3 characters), a functional need and an emotional need are both present (plus a social need when you require one) and all named needs are distinct from each other ignoring case and spacing, and the whole document stays under 20,000 characters. STUD does NOT judge whether the whys are the right questions, whether the answers are true to a real customer, whether the named needs are the actual root motivation, or anything in the optional customer context you provide.

Starting Want
Get the marketing, finance, and product work off my plate without adding headcount.
Ladder
| Level | Why | Answer |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Why do you want that work off your plate without adding headcount? | Because salaries and agency retainers are the two costs I cannot take back, and at pre-seed, pre-revenue, every dollar of overhead is runway I no longer have to find out whether anyone will pay. |
| 2 | Why not cover it yourself with a general-purpose AI chat assistant? | I try, but getting real work out of a blank prompt is manual craft: I have to know what to ask, phrase it well, re-explain my business in every session, and carry the output somewhere by hand before it goes stale. |
| 3 | Why does re-explaining and carrying output by hand wear on you more than doing the work itself? | Because every session starts from zero, so nothing compounds: what I produced last week makes this week no faster, and I am spending founder hours running in place instead of moving the venture. |
| 4 | Why is compounding the thing you keep coming back to? | Because a fact I state once should reach everything I run afterward, and every result should leave the system knowing more than it did before; that is the only way one person's effort adds up to more than one person's hours. |
| 5 | Why does it matter to you personally that one person's effort can add up like that? | Because staying small is the plan, not a compromise I am waiting to outgrow. I want to run a real company as a team of one, and I want to stop feeling behind every morning I open the laptop. |
Functional Need
Marketing, finance, product, and engineering work produced and kept current without adding headcount.
Emotional Need
Relief from the always-behind feeling: confidence the venture is moving even in the hours the founder is not working.
Social Need
Credibility as a real company in front of customers and investors while visibly staying a team of one.
